A new food venture has rolled into East Hampshire with a nostalgic splash of retro charm.
The Snack Wagon - a red and white American diner-style converted caravan - was launched in Alton at the end of August and received a warm welcome from residents.
This mobile café is the creation of 23-year-old Grace Lamb, who also works as a manager at Marks & Spencer in Alton.
Balancing her role at her local supermarket with this new enterprise, Grace said she wanted to create something that went beyond serving coffee and cakes.
She explained: “My aim is to offer not just good food and drinks, but a friendly, community feel with every visit.”
The Snack Wagon made its debut on August 30 at The Butts in Alton, where families gathered to enjoy coffee, cold drinks, savoury bites and freshly baked cakes.
On August 31 the van visited Medstead recreation ground and playground, drawing another enthusiastic crowd.
Residents praised the quality of the refreshments and the welcoming atmosphere Grace created.
One described the wagon as “a brilliant addition to the area” and another said it gave the village green “a real community buzz”.
The vehicle has been carefully refurbished to provide a cosy and eye-catching hub for passers-by.
Grace hopes her business will continue to tour local greens, recreation grounds and community spaces, offering a regular spot for people to meet, chat and enjoy a treat.
She paid tribute to those who helped bring her vision to life, thanking her family, friends, boyfriend and her “M&S family” for their encouragement.
Grace gave special thanks to her grandad, who was always on hand to tackle mechanical challenges along the way.
After what she called a “hugely successful” first weekend, Grace hoped The Snack Wagon would become “a firm favourite” in Alton and the surrounding areas.
