DEVELOPMENT that would breach the Alton skyline and see the loss of a swathe of meadowland was covered by BBC South Today last Saturday. Save Alton's Butterfly Meadows campaigners turned out to demonstrate against a bid by the Government Homes and Comm­unities Agency to build on 11.5 hectares of species-rich meadow. Enjoyed for generations, it is described on the news programme by Hampshire Wildlife Trust's Clive Chatters as a "precious and rare habitat". For full story, see this week's Alton Herald.
