ALTON library has re-opened after a six-week closure for work on a £100,000 refurbishment, including the installation of self-service kiosks.

To coincide with World Book Day last Thursday, the reopening provided an opportunity for an announcement by Hampshire County Council that Alton library is to open for an extra half day a week, in response to demand.

On Thursday, young visitors were able to enjoy a story time session, pick up an Alton Treasure Trail, spot some book characters posted around town and enter a lucky dip prize draw.

And the adults got the chance to check out the improved facilities.
