ALTON-based company InnerVision Technology Ltd has helped a children’s hospital in the United States develop a unique solution for inpatients by providing an iPad to every patient for purposes of entertainment, education and medical records.
The IT department at Phoenix Children’s Hospital in Arizona created in-house software that enables them to deploy applications that are fully suited to each child by age and language. The iPads enable patients to communicate with their family, engage with social media, and stay entertained. They can also track their healthcare results throughout their stay.
The project needed the right cases for the iPads to provide protection and security as well as minimise device contamination and aid infection control. Tough-PAC designed and manufactured the cases in Alton and provided the proper equipment to help Phoenix Children’s Hospital accomplish its goal.
Keith Smith, managing director of InnerVision Technology, said: “I received a call from David Higginson, executive vice-president, at Phoenix Children’s Hospital wanting to know more about Tough-PAC. He said they were unable to find the right solution in the United States, so we took it from there.”
When his team asked for some bespoke modifications to suit their development, Inner-Vision Technology adjusted the Tough-PAC to create a unique solution that fully met the needs of the hospital. This special version was manufactured and exported to Phoenix last year.
According to Mr Higginson, the project has been a major success.
“It’s going great,” he said. “We are now fully rolled out it’s all working as planned and the kids love it. It has been so successful that we are working with two other hospitals to get the system deployed there.”
Mr Smith added: “It has been a pleasure working with Phoenix Children’s Hospital on this project. We are really pleased to supply our products to support patient care in other countries.”
