The amount of council tax requested by Alton Town Council from those living in Band D properties will be £121.44 in 2026-27 - an increase of £4.45, or 3.8 per cent, on this year.

This figure is based on the council setting its precept - the total amount it raises from council tax payers - at £946,920. The remaining £35,967 needed to balance the budget will be drawn from council reserves.

The council approved the budget and precept request at its meeting in the Assembly Rooms on December 10.

It also agreed to increase annual allotment rent, and the one-off allotment administration fee - which includes the cost of keys and locks - from £30 to £37, and to increase pitch fees by the rate of inflation.
