CHRISTIANS Against Poverty (CAP) is celebrating the third anniversary of setting up a debt counselling centre in Alton and its services are “still in demand”.
Part of the national debt counselling charity, the Alton service was set up in 204 by Mark Rumsby, in partnership with Harvest Church.
Based at the Alton Maltings Centre, during the past three years the Alton CAP debt help service has advised 103 people from Alton and the surrounding villages and now, according to Mr Rumsby, “over half of them are either debt free or on a journey out of debt”.
Mr Rumsby said: “It is very sad that so many people in Alton are struggling with debt issues but it is fantastic that CAP has been able to help them through this difficult period in their lives. Getting free of debt can be life-changing.”
He is “very grateful” for the time and effort put in by his team of volunteers who “come from a variety of local churches and who make it all possible”.
Next Sunday (July 23), Mr Rumsby will be speaking during the morning service at Harvest Church about CAP and how it is transforming the lives of individuals and families, both nationally and specifically in Alton. The service starts at 10.30am and everyone is welcome.
