Crime levels in Alton rose slightly in May with a new park attracting the wrong kind of visitor.

The Alton Gateway site was one of the town’s “crime hotspots” during the month according to the latest figures on the www.police.uk map with seven being reported.

Five involved anti-social behaviour with crimes involving drugs or violent or sexual offences (VSOs) also taking place at the site off Winchester Road.

Some 110 crimes were reported around the patch compared to 99 the previous month with incidents involving VSOs (43) and anti-social behaviour (24) being the most frequently reported.

Lapwing Way in Four Marks was also an ASB hotspot with 11 offences over the month, while three burglaries were also reported in the Farringdons.
