RESIDENTS are coming up for air after winning the first round in the fight to save a site in a peaceful and unspoiled corner.

The application, on behalf of the executors of the estate of Eve West, was for outline permission for three dwellings following the demolition of the property at 10 New Barn Lane, Alton.

It was a proposal that the residents described as "unnecessary and inappropriate", feeling that the existing house should be retained as a "fine example of 1930s architecture".
