The site manager of Amery Hill School in Alton is retiring after 35 years of service.

Pete Tarrant started working at Amery Hill on March 18, 1991, as the caretaker.

On Facebook last September Amery Hill described Pete as one of its “highly skilled and dedicated support staff”.

His daughter Claire Baker said: “He’s been a very big part of Amery Hill over the last 35 years, seeing lots of staff and children go through the school.

“He saw his three children go through Amery Hill, and some of his grandchildren.”

Pete’s final day as site manager is August 31 - but that won’t be farewell.

Claire added: “Pete can’t leave the school altogether, as he will become their minibus driver. We wish Pete all the best on his retirement.”
