Motorists face a five-mile detour to get from Lower to Upper Farringdon as the road between the village has been closed for flood alleviation works.

The great divide will continue as ongoing roadworks on Shirnall Hill mean the section close to the car park and meadow will be closed for another week.

Diversion signs have been erected with motorists being re-routed via the A32, A31, B3006 Selborne Road and Gaston Lane.

The A32 Farringdon-Chawton Flood Alleviation Scheme has been ongoing since initial investigative works took place in the autumn of 2017.

Since then, the road has been closed on several occasions as Hampshire County Council works through the multi-phased project.

The latest closure came into effect on August 3 and is expected to last two weeks.

It is anticipated the project will be completed by autumn 2023.
