Father Christmas will be touring the streets of Alton for charity once more this year – by bicycle!

The 8th Alton Scouts have teamed up again with Alton Round Table on this annual fundraising project that sees thousands of pounds collected for local good causes.

Last year Santa ditched his Land Rover for environmental reasons, and now with fuel costs spiralling Rudolf will be pedalling Father Christmas around the streets of Alton, Holybourne and Bentley in his eco-sleigh for the second year running. For routes and dates visit www.altonsanta.org.uk

In 2021 more than £10,000 was raised, and donations were made to many local causes. The final cheque was presented to Alton Men’s Shed last week.

Alton Men’s Shed is equipped with a range of tools, materials and a social area, in which mainly retired men can socialise and make things for themselves, local charities and voluntary organisations.

It also aims to improve the physical and psychological well-being of its members, allowing retirement to be a joy with the benefit of helping others.

They regularly assist with projects such as assembling furniture, and repairing fences and notice boards. This year they helped Wootey Beavers build bird boxes and bug hotels.

The donation has provided them with a portable kit of essential hand tools.
