THE annual New Year’s Day charity run and walk at Lasham Airfield proved to be a resounding success, raising more than £500 for charity.
Sixty-four people took part in the event, bringing families along for support. They ran or walked a course that took them once around the airfield perimeter, a distance of approximately three miles. Luckily the weather was kind, if somewhat windy, and the winner completed the circuit in just over 18 minutes.
Away from the circuit, there was a tombola and snacks were available from the restaurant.
Lasham Gliding Society member Marjorie Hobby, who organised the event, said: “The atmosphere was very upbeat and all agreed a great way to start the year.”
More than £500 was raised for Hounds for Heroes‚ a charity that provides specially trained assistance dogs to injured and disabled men and women of both the UK armed forces and the emergency services.
Mrs Hobby has expressed grateful thanks to all those who contributed and took part.
