A CHURCH in Alton is offering a free eight-week course for people who want to give up smoking.

Harvest Church’s Fresh Start group is starting it at Alton Maltings on Wednesday at 10.30am.

It hopes to help people kick the habit in the run-up to the NHS initiative No Smoking Day on March 9, as 80,000 smoking-related deaths are recorded in the UK every year.

Fresh Start manager Mark Rumsby said: “National No Smoking Day is a great excuse for people wanting to give up, save their pocket the expense of cigarettes and feel healthier.”
