WHAT a difference a day makes, as members and staff at Alton’s Limes Day Centre found when a group of volunteers from Vodafone gave their garden a speedy makeover.
“It was a great result,” said Stephanie Cruse, manager of the Chawton Park Road centre. “The work the Vodafone employees did was absolutely marvellous.”
“We had a budget of £300 to spend on the garden and I bought all the materials before the eight Vodafone volunteers, who are based at Newbury, arrived early to start work,” she said.
During the day, fortified by refreshments, the workers laid a path, cleared old debris and pots, cut down ivy, did a mass of weeding, mended and painted fences and a trellis, and planted flowers. They also resurrected the bird feeder.
Stephanie added: “Vodafone give them the day off so they can volunteer and they all received a big thank you from us when they finished.”
Day centre visitors and staff where now enjoying the garden.
“They have been sitting out there, sun hats on, enjoying how nice it all looks. The volunteers did a really great job and all in one day,” said Stephanie.
