A COUNCIL is in mourning following the sudden death of its former vice-chairman.

Liss Parish Council held a minute’s silence at its November 20 meeting in memory of Cllr Nick Wilson.

The 71-year-old from Liss Forest died on holiday in South Africa on October 16. His funeral took place in St Mary’s Liss on Wednesday.

Cllr Keith Budden led the tributes with councillors and staff expressing their deepest condolences to Nick’s wife and family.

Mr Wilson joined the council in 2018 as he “wanted something do to in the evening” and quickly impressed with his dedication and hard-working ethos.

He was vice-chairman for half of his five-year tenure at the council while his “determination and drive” was a key factor in the realisation of the pump track and Mill Road community garden projects.

Cllr Budden said: “He was a very hard-working and reliable councillor.

“As well as losing such a committed councillor, Nick will be very much missed in a personal capacity by all those who had the pleasure to know him or who worked alongside him.”

Mr Wilson was also a trustee at the Newman Collard Playing Fields Trust and a governor at Treloar School and College for 13 years.
