Order, order! The MP for Farnham & Bordon has visited a different kind of house as a pub near Bordon has celebrated a double in a milestone year.

There were cheers in The Crown Inn last Friday as the pub in Arford was named the finest in the constituency in a “fun competition” run by Greg Stafford MP.

The watering hole won the inaugural award last year when it came ahead of 54 pubs around the constituency in a public vote. And although voting was a little closer this time round, the village pub still won by a country mile with Mr Stafford congratulating the team and its patrons during a visit last Friday.

He said: “It shall come as no surprise to you that I’m back to announce your wonderful pub here, The Crown, is the winner, congratulations once again.

“It’s a thoroughly well-deserved success. It was a little closer than last year but The Crown was still well ahead of the competition.

“Let’s see if you can make it a hat-trick next year.”

It’s been a memorable year for The Crown as a weekend of celebrations were held during the summer to mark its 150th birthday. A beer tent, hog roast, live music, raffle and Scalextric tournament were among the many highlights, with My Stafford and Sandi Toksvig also visiting to anoint the winners of a crown parade and competition.

The pub owes a lot to its loyal customers and the trio of Chris Baxter, Simon David and Anne Joint, who took over The Crown in July 2024. The directors and their team continue to go from strength to strength, with Simon putting their success in the competition to “consistency”.

He said: “Thank you to everyone for coming and thank you for your support, it means a lot.”
