ALTON and Petersfield NFU members have updated East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds MP on farming issues and discussed the future of agriculture.

NFU members discussed post-Brexit options for the development of a domestic agricultural policy during a meeting on September 9, hosted by Alton and Petersfield NFU group secretary Richard Buer at Selborne.

Mr Buer said after the meeting: “We had a very useful catch up on topical farming issues and inevitably we discussed post-Brexit options for a domestic agriculture policy. During the meeting, the MP indicated that he would assist where possible in any negotiations on a future farming policy.”

The NFU’s biggest ever consultation of its 47,000 farmer and grower members, on its ambitious vision for British agriculture post-Brexit, started last month.

Union members’ views will be collated into a report that will then go before NFU policy board on September 29, before final agreement in October.
