EAST Hampshire is offering a host of unique events, activities and opportunities for treating mum this year.

From high tea on a steam train and fly-fishing in the Meon Valley to a nature-themed sleepover or a stay in a shepherd’s hut, there is something special for everyone to enjoy this Mothering Sunday (March 26).

In this the 200th anniversary year of Jane Austen’s death, it’s the perfect time to be exploring her Chawton home and garden, or take a trip back in time to the heady days of steam with a traditional high tea as you travel through the beautiful Hampshire countryside on the Mid-Hants Watercress Line between Alton and Alresford.

Get a taste of country house living with Sunday lunch at historic Langrish House, near Petersfield, or enjoy afternoon tea and a spa break at Old Thorns in Liphook.

For a Saturday (March 25) night to remember, sleep-over with mum at the Selborne home of 18th Century naturalist Gilbert White. Activities include bat detecting, campfire cookery, catapult building, and crafts.

For adventurous mums, there is an opportunity to try fly-fishing at Meon Springs or to enjoy super-glamping in a shepherd’s hut at the Two Hoots campsite near Alresford.

There are lots of other things to do on Mother’s Day this year in East Hampshire, including countryside rambles or cycles (including literary walks dedicated to writers who lived and worked here), visiting historic houses and gardens, traditional pubs and fine dining restaurants.
