A TEAM of six cyclists from M&S stores in the Home Counties South region pedalled 81 miles from Slough to Alton on Tuesday in a bid to raise £25,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Intrepid bikers David Smith (Guildford), James Chapman (Reading), Simon Davies (Bognor Regis), Ben Whettingsteele (Basingstoke), James Gamble (Chichester Portfield) and Tom Herriven (M&S Head Office) had set out from Bath Road, Slough, at 8am and called in at 10 M&S stores en route before arriving to a welcome reception at the Alton store at 5pm.
They are collecting money via JustGiving pages and store collection boxes, and by random donations along the way. According to Mr Chapman, one driver wound down his window and put money into the hand of a cyclist as they waited for the traffic lights to change.
The aim of the team is to cover 230 miles in three non-consecutive days, visiting 29 stores en route.
Day two is due to begin in Petersfield on Saturday, September 22, and will take the team to Haywards Heath, while the final stint will coincide with World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan on Friday, September 28, which will take them from Horsham to Haslemere.
