ALTON Town Council has unanimously objected to a controversial outline planning application to build 120 dwellings on one of the town's highest points.
The proposal, submitted by Foreman Homes, is for 48 affordable and 72 market houses south west of Highmead House, on Old Odiham Road.
At a full town council meeting last week Wednesday at the Assembly Rooms, the public and councillors quizzed Ian Donohue from Southern Planning Practice.
Core to the concerns is the site's location, above Gilbert White Way, which is "probably the highest and most exposed point" in the north of Alton.
Alton mayor Graham Hill said the application, which would be visible from the South Downs National Park, was "somewhat lacking, to say the least", particularly in terms of the intrusion it would have on views.
