ALTON Town Council’s open spaces committee is currently considering a number of potential improvements to Anstey Park and is actively seeking residents’ views to determine a timetable of works and fundraising for the most appropriate proposals.

The provision of any additional facilities will be dependent upon the successful approval of grant funding and it is anticipated that any solution would be provided at little or no direct cost to the taxpayer, except where matched funding is a requirement.

Alton Town Council’s corporate strategy 2016-20 states as a key objective: “Develop and improve public spaces to produce inclusive facilities to give Altonians the best possible opportunities to pursue an active lifestyle at minimal direct cost.”

The council would like to establish which of these proposed schemes may be supported by residents and also how many people might use them. There would be no charge to residents for community use of the facilities.

A public consultation is being carried out which will be open for responses until September 5.

There will be a stand at the town council-organised Rio Festival at Anstey Park on Sunday, August 21, where consultation forms will be available. Paper copies will also be available from the Town Hall as well as being delivered to 8,000 homes across the town.

Alternatively, the consultation can be completed online via the website surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ansteypark.
