THE Alton Jewel – a unique Roman artefact – is due up for auction on Friday in London, where it is expected to fetch up to £50,000.
Found by metal detectors in a field at Froxfield, near Alton, in December 1999, this "unique and unparalleled pendant jewel" has been dated 1AD.
