ALTON]S Contact the Elderly group was the grateful recipient of a Waitrose green token collection recently.

The organisation arranges Sunday afternoon tea parties for older people who may experience loneliness because they experience difficulty getting out of their homes alone.

Two of the group’s guests, Anne Steele and Barbara Stent, were “delighted” to receive the cheque for £590 on behalf of the group.

Annette Blackman, who is the local co-ordinator, and David Warner, who is a member of Alton Lions who regularly volunteers as a driver and a host, were also present.

Anyone interested in volunteering to either host a tea party for five or six guests, or to collect two or three people and drive them to and from a local venue, is asked to get in touch with Contact the Elderly.
