ALLOTMENT holders reaped more than just fresh fruit and vegetables when six of them scooped awards in Alton Town Council's 2012 Best Kept Allotment competition.
Alton mayor Sue Hodder handed out the certificates and silverware to plot holders gathered for a Christmas tea in the town hall.
She said: "Judging the allotments is one of the most pleasurable duties as town mayor, admiring plot holders' hard work. With so many well maintained plots, it was very difficult picking the best of the crop."
