The ‘general market’ will take place between 10am and 4pm in a closed section of road between The Hart and Downing Street junctions, promising around 40 “good quality” stalls, said Mr Lewis.
These will sell everything from flowers, plants, art and antiques to local butchery, cheese and, it is hoped, wet fish – but no takeaway street food or drink, to encourage visitors to use existing town outlets.
West Street has closed for three open-air markets in the past year – kicking off with an arts and crafts market last September, followed by an antiques and brocante market in April, and another art and crafts market in May – all run by ACVR Events.

Waverley films shine light on businesses and community life across boroughBut Mr Lewis’ market will complement these with a more mixed fair – bringing with him many traders from his award-winning three-times weekly Winchester markets, and Tuesday Alton market, as well as a number of local stallholders unique to Farnham.
And speaking to the Herald, he expressed hope to one day operate a weekly Wednesday market in West Street, Farnham, “at no cost to the taxpayer”.
“I’m constantly asked when will I be opening a market in Farnham and I hope this will show everyone what can be done, and get people excited about the prospect of a weekly market,” said Mr Lewis.
He added he was keen to work with the town’s independent traders to increase footfall in the town – citing a survey which found “98 per cent” of people visiting Winchester town centre were attracted by the market.
West Street will be closed from 6am to 6pm on Sunday, July 25.
