ALTON Art Society’s children’s exhibition prizegiving in the Assembly Rooms offered up an eclectic mix of work from talented youngsters.

This year, 11 schools from Alton and its outlying villages sent in artwork in a wide variety of mediums, with artists ranging in age from pre-school up to year 11.

“It is always so exciting to see what turns up. There are always surprises and challenges in how to display the more unusual pieces,” said children’s exhibition organiser Kate Davis.

This year’s judge Katie Riley – whose artwork ‘Glorious Geraniums’ was used for last year’s art society exhibition poster – took on the difficult but fun job of choosing the prize winners. They, in turn, were invited to a prizegiving ceremony last Saturday.

Children’s prizes this year were sponsored by Alton Town Council, with winners awarded vouchers for art materials from the Alternative Packaging Solutions art shop in Alton.
