TWO talented Alton College media students have been wowing international audiences with their independent film Something Blue.

Jonny Crawford, previously a pupil at Weydon School in Farnham, and Joe Johnson, formerly of Stepping Stones School, Hindhead, travelled to the United States in March to screen their work in front of other industry professionals at the Cinequest Film Festival.

The annual independent film festival is held annually in San Jose, California, and bills itself as showcasing “premier films, renowned and emerging artists, and breakthrough technology – empowering global connectivity between creators, innovators and audiences”.

Cinequest has led the world in its “showcase and implementation of the innovations that have revolutionised film making, exhibition and distribution”, according to a festival spokesman.

Something Blue was written and directed by Joe Johnson and produced by Joe and Jonny in collaboration. Another Alton College alumni, Jacob Davies – previously at Robert May’s School, Odiham – helped with the cinematography.

The film has been screened at another 14 festivals both locally and internationally.

The story begins with an increasingly heated conversation over breakfast which begins to dismantle a married couple’s long-lasting, seemingly healthy relationship – full of history, love and melancholia.

The film features West End actress Pippa Winslow and Ric Law and won the BFI Into Film film of the month award last November.

Both Joe and Jonny are planning to attend Queen Mary University in London to study film after they leave Alton College.
