IT was a disappointing week for Chawton Park’s indoor bowlers. With no league action, it was all about national competitions and Chawton’s dwindling involvement continued for some.

Disappointment for Charlie Spear and Danny Brown in the singles, both losing to tough opponents. Spear went down 12-21 to Loddon Vale’s Duncan Rogers and Brown slumped 4-21 to Leigh Allen of Atherley.

Robert Hutchinson and Graham Robinson provided some Chawton cheer with a comfortable 23-9 win in the pairs over Loddon Vale duo Gary Lovett and Dougie Morgan.

But there was no luck for Charlie Spear and Gary Johnson. Having earned a reprieve by scoring two to draw level on the last end, they just lost out on the extra end to Cliff Higgins and Brian Barber (Banister Park).

More woe in the national men’s fours as, firstly, Adam White’s rink saw a nine-shot advantage evaporate into a two-shot loss. Graham Robinson’s rink travelled to Atherley and lost 8-20 to the strong Martyn Wise rink.

In the final match of the week, Sue Murray, Beryl Collier, Margaret Holden and Margaret Leppard travelled to Loddon Vale for a potentially difficult fours match. The in-form Chawton ladies recorded an excellent seven-shot victory.
