MATCH of the day in I’Anson Division Three was between promoted Midhurst and league newcomers Farncombe.
Midhurst knew they had a game on their hands, but, put in to bat, they reached a healthy 108-1 at halfway, with Nathan Kent (49) and skipper Tim Dixon (43) going well.
But Jack Durrant had bowled a great spell of spin and in the 13th of his 14 overs, he struck with three wickets for three runs as Midhurst tried to up the run-rate. However, Tom Creed made a fighting 40 not out and the hosts posted a decent 197-7 from 48 overs.
Farncombe were soon in trouble as Rob Doick claimed the important wickets of skipper Matt Jaggard, Lee Hudson and Wes Pusey, leaving them 15-3 after eight overs. Midhurst knew that Ryan Luff was the key wicket and although he did give a few chances, they were not taken. He went on to punish Midhurst with a superb 129 not out off 130 balls, including 17 fours and two sixes, and virtually won the game off his own bat.
Bramley looked well set for victory against The Bourne after James Renny and Nick Hyett had shared a massive stand of 199 for the second wicket. Renny made 88 and after Hyett had completed a sparkling century, Bramley made a midway declaration on 231-5.
But it was not enough to beat The Bourne. After a good start by the two Nicks, Farr and Hales, Joe Morse took command with a brilliant 127 not out. Supported by Hales (47) and Steve Turpin (39 not out), Morse saw Bourne to a comfortable victory in the 41st over.
Another centurion was Tom Hufton of Blackheath II, the early leaders, who totalled a formidable 247-5 and then bowled Dogmersfield II out for 149.
Thursley’s first win of the season came at the expense of Harting and Shalford won at Wood Street.
