Alresford Town 4, Bournemouth 1

HIGHFLYING Alresford Town roared back to the top of the Premier Division of the Sydenhams Wessex League with a 4-1 thumping of Bournemouth last Saturday.

But hopes of extending their lead further at the summit were thwarted when their scheduled clash with Baffins Milton Rovers at Arlebury Park on Tuesday night was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Against Bournemouth, goals from Mike Gosney (2), Craig McAllister and Duarte Martins saw the Magpies win for a third successive league game to move two points clear of AFC Stoneham at the top with a game in hand.

The Magpies now face two games in four days as they look to secure promotion.

On Saturday, Alresford face a wobbling Lymington Town side who have lost three of their past four games, and whose own promotion run is fading, and next Tuesday the Magpies head to the Isle of Wight to take on lowly Cowes Sports, a team which is on a horrible run of 14 league games without a win which stretches all the way back to November 23.
