Alton Golf Club’s 2023 captain, Mark Reitzler, has driven into office.
They then walk down the first fairway and place the stick where they think the captain’s drive will finish.
The nearest pin to the stick wins a prize – for those who are wondering, lollipop sticks date back to the Middle Ages.
Reitzler hit his impressive drive level with the lollipop stick placed furthest from the tee.
The club’s president Tony Ransley won the 2023 charity prize.
Following the drive-in, traditionally members play a nine-hole competition before they gather for lunch and drinks.
The captain enjoyed a superb nine holes of golf, scoring 19 points, despite putting his ball out of bounds on the fifth, but he was pipped to victory by three members.
The joint winners of the competition were Rob Keogh, Steve Crooke, and Malcom Farmer, all with 20 points.
After the prizes were awarded, the captain announced the 2022 captain’s charity, the Bushy Leaze Charity, received a total of £2,132.50 from the club.
This was generously topped up with another £400 from Srixon.
Reitzler concluded the event by announcing the 2023 Alton Golf Club charity would be the Alton Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre. The centre has a long-standing relationship with the club, with people in rehab being allowed to play the course, free of green fees, on Mondays.
