BASINGSTOKE II 1, HASLEMERE 2
HASLEMERE Ladies travelled to Basingstoke hoping to continue their winning streak and took on this task in near freezing conditions.
The visitors adapted quickly to the bouncy pitch and dominated the first 20 minutes, building attacks down both flanks.
Sarah Elworthy, using her silky stick skills, left players in her wake and played a great through-ball to Alex Hardy who then set up Lucy Brownrigg to slide in and score the first goal.
Basingstoke fought back, however, and equalised from a short corner just before half-time.
Haslemere came out for the second half with all guns blazing and recovered their team mojo as they transferred the ball from left to right.
Hannah Cross was able to hold possession and pass on to Elworthy and then Hardy who sent a well disguised ball towards goal where Brownrigg again converted with a sliding effort – and astroburn to show for her courage.
From defence to attack, Haslemere were outstanding and are now third in the table, just one point off the lead.
