THE Allen Gallery is hosting a series of creative art and craft events for adults to explore their artistic side while students are invited to join Ronnie Ireland for a series of drawing masterclasses.
In the classes they will learn and practice some of the central skills of an artist, including how to look more carefully with the wonderful collection and garden at the gallery to inspire them. It will offer a chance to enhance drawing skills and explore different approaches.
The classes take place tomorrow (Saturday) and Saturday, November 28, from 1pm to 4pm. To book, call 01420 82802.
On December 1, potter Lucy Burley will demonstrate how to make a festive candle holder, which will be fired and glazed ready for people to take home in time for Christmas. The workshop runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Much to the relief of parents, The Allen Gallery also offers a fun-packed half-term feature next Tuesday, October 27, with two exciting events planned.
In the daytime, visitors will have the chance to find out about the work of archaeologists and get hands on. This free drop-in family event runs from 11am to 1pm and from 2pm to 4pm and children must be accompanied by an adult.
In the evening there will be an archaeological quest around the museum. The lights will be out so people are asked to bring a torch for this exciting chance to explore the museum at night. This drop-in family activity will run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm and costs £3 per person.
Young artists aged between five and 11 are invited to send a drawing or a painting on the theme of ‘nature’ to the Allen Gallery. The artwork should be no bigger than A4 and may be displayed in the gallery’s cafe from December 2-19. There are two categories – 5-7 year olds and 8-11 year olds – and a winner will be chosen from each category, from which an overall winner chosen.
Entry to the competition is free. Interested artists will need to deliver their artwork to the Allen Gallery by the November 24.
Ross McGauran, the gallery’s assistant cmmunity engagement and learning officer, said: “This is a great opportunity for budding artists to have their artwork displayed in the Allen Gallery.”
