A PUBLIC consultation into the future of the Greenfields amenity land will be launched tomorrow when people are invited to the site to meet with councillors and officers to discuss options – and enjoy an ice cream.

Owned by Alton Town Council, the land was subject to horse fly-grazing earlier this year and the town council’s open spaces committee is seeking residents’ views on whether to continue maintaining the site through the grazing of cattle in the summer months.

This would involve replacing fences and the kissing gates which failed to prevent unscrupulous owners seeking to illegally deposit animals on the site over the winter.

Alternative options for the site include removing some fencing, ensuring the site is secure from vehicular access but not suitable for grazing, leaving the grass long or mowing paths and installing seating, similar to the current arrangement at Windmill Hill.

Following next Wednesday’s launch, when the public are invited on site next to the play area at the top of Northanger Close from 6.30pm-7.30pm to discuss the options.

The consultation will run until August 19 and can be completed online at surveymonkey.co.uk/r/greenfieldsopenspace. Paper copies will be available at the launch and from the town hall.
