Treloar College student King Ojugo flew a plane over Alton – with the help of Aerobility.

Treloar’s prides itself on focusing its students on their abilities – not their disabilities.

Aerobility is a charity which provides anyone, with any disability, with access to the wonder of flight. Aerobility is recognised as the leading expert in disabled flying.

Charlotte Mills, Treloar’s progress and transition co-ordinator and internship co-ordinator, said: “It took quite a bit of planning – but it was absolutely worth it.

“King was supported by residential team leader Lamin Silameh and physiotherapy assistant Peter Rose on the day – and without their expertise and knowledge around his care, medication and physiotherapy needs this would not have been possible.

“Thank you to the Aerobility pilot for flying over Holybourne, Alton and Treloar’s site.

“Treloar’s staff and students all went outside and waved and cheered as King flew over – it really was a very special moment for all involved.

“When King first came to Treloar’s in 2020, I was his progress and transition co-ordinator. I asked him about his dreams and aspirations.

“He was a keen lover of sports and was looking for something a bit different – some of the team managed to get him on a Wetwheels boating experience which he absolutely loved and then he said to me he’d like to fly. So that was my mission.”

King applied to Treloar’s Campbell Sports Fund, contributed a small amount towards the costs and was funded for the remaining amount.

Treloar’s thanked Aerobility and the Campbell Sports Fund for making King’s dream come true.
