A CHIHUAHUA puppy had a narrow escape when its owner intervened moments before a red kite swooped in for the kill on Friday.

The five-month-old pup was enjoying the sunshine in its owners rear garden in Old Odiham Road, Alton, when the bird of prey made its move.

Fortunately, the dog's owner, Cicily Turnbull, saw the kite circling above from her kitchen window and rushed outside to fend off the attack in the nick of time.

It is the second such incident in the Alton area in just over a week, following a similar attack on a miniature Yorkshire terrier at Binsted.
