ALTON Town Council was due to decide this week whether to dispose of part of its land in Chawton Park Road, with the intention of contributing towards a replacement sports centre.

The decision, due to be put to full council on Wednesday, follows on the heels of a forceful Electors' Meeting which called for public openness in any proposals on the future of Alton Sports Centre.

Electors urged ATC to 'get its skates on' and produce a Neighbourhood Plan, to influence district planning policy and ensure "Alton gets what it wants" in terms of infrastructure to support any development of the town.
