AN Alton man died after being hit by two vehicles while crossing a busy road.

Gordon Phillips, 69, was said to have been attending the Odiham Christmas market on November 27 and was crossing the B3349 at Dunley's Hill at around 6.35pm when he was hit by a Toyota Yaris. He was then hit by a Nissan Navara pick-up travelling in the opposite direction.

Mr Phillips was taken to hospital in Basingstoke by ambulance with head injuries but was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

The driver of the Yaris, a 52-year-old woman from Bramley, Surrey, and the driver of the Navara, a 47-year-old man from Fleet, both gave full accounts to police and no arrests were made. Police are appealing for witnesses of the circumstances leading to the collision.

Anyone who witnessed it should call the serious collision investigation unit at Eastleigh on 101, quoting Operation Peppo.
