The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for London and South East England, with thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail possible on Saturday afternoon.

The warning is valid between 2pm and 9pm on Saturday, June 10.

While many areas are expected to remain dry, certain locations may experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours. The Met Office advises that there is a small chance of rapid flooding in homes and businesses, potentially resulting in damage to buildings due to floodwater, lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds.

Spray and sudden flooding could create difficult driving conditions, leading to possible road closures. Flooding or lightning strikes may also result in delays and potential cancellations of rail services.

There is a slight chance of power cuts occurring, which could temporarily affect homes and businesses along with other essential services.

The Met Office's forecast suggests high temperatures will trigger a scattering of showers across parts of England and Wales on Saturday.

Some of these showers are expected to be torrential and thundery, bringing rainfall amounts of 30-40mm per hour. In certain areas affected by multiple showers, rainfall totals could exceed 60mm. Additionally, hail, strong gusts of wind, and lightning are identified as additional hazards associated with the thunderstorms.

However, many places within the warning area are likely to remain dry or experience only minimal rainfall due to the scattered nature of the heaviest showers.

Regular updates and the full details of the warning, including a map view, can be accessed on the Met Office website.
