THERE was fun for all the family when Party in the Park returned to Alton’s Public Gardens on August 14.
The Alton Lions’ Party in the Park was organised with and on behalf of Treloar’s and also raised money for the school and college.
Deputy town mayor Cllr Ginny Boxall and Janet Gwynne in the Lions’ furry mascot outfit arrived for the opening in Tony Vincent’s Cadillac.
There was a chance to spin on a gyro wheel or fly weightlessly in an inflatable castle before descending by parachute.
Balloon Dave donned a rainbow jacket to impress Lion Sarah O’Donoghue with his ballon animal modelling while David Warner and Bob Barber ran the Lions bottle stall.
Lions president Atul Patel gave Alton Lions Certificates of Appreciation to those who helped in the Covid-19
pandemic.
Alton Town Council finance officer Wendy Simson received one for her work for the Alton and District Community Resilience Fund.
Members Philippa Brealey, Eleanor Hill and Jenny Griffiths collected one for Alton Climate Action Network for climate change education and encouraging appreciation of nature.
Bill Griffin and Alton Community Care were presented with one for taking residents to the Basingstoke vaccination centre (see Page 27).
Van handyman Les Gibbs received one for his work for the resilience fund and the Laptops for Schools project it ran with the Lions. And resident Sue Saunders collected one for herself and husband Mel for their support of the Lions.
