THE people of Alton turned out in force on Sunday for a Remembrance Day service to mark 91 years since the end of the Great War.

Young and old, they gathered scores deep around The Cairn war memorial on Crown Hill to pay tribute to all those who had given their lives, both in the two world wars and in subsequent conflicts, in the name of freedom and of global peace.
