ALTON’S Market Square was packed two days before Christmas for the annual carol service around the tree.
The event attracted people of all ages, from children in onesies to parents and grandparents, there to sing along to the traditional music of Alton’s Salvation Army Band.
Alton Town Council community and events officer Emily-Jane Messenger said: “Alton was indeed full of the joys of Christmas. With a wonderful friendly atmosphere this was the perfect way embrace the festive community spirit.”
The carol singing was led by town mayor Pam Jones who read a heartfelt Christmas message, wishing everyone a lovely Christmas and a happy New Year.
Alton Town Council has extended grateful thanks to Steve Smiley and Major Neil Woollacott from Alton’s Salvation Army, which organises this annual event, to Dave Tigg for providing the sound and lighting, and to Alton town councillors for volunteering to hand out the carol sheets.
