MINDLESS vandals have damaged Miss Bell’s Fountain in Alton’s Public Gardens.
According to Alton town clerk Leah Coney, the fountain, which is the centrepiece of the new Parterre Garden of Remembrance, is currently out of action until replacement parts can be fitted.
She said: “Some of the roses were also damaged as a result of people running through the garden, either on foot or on cycles or a scooter, which is so saddening given the fact that they are all sponsored to commemorate loved ones who are no longer with us.”
While the roses are being replaced by town council grounds staff, thought is being given to the installation of a knee rail to prevent further trampling of the beds.
