JUNE 30: Jigsaw drop-in at Parish Centre, Church Street, Alton, 2pm-4pm. Deliver completed puzzles, choose another puzzle to take home and complete. Join in completing a jigsaw on the day or just pop in and enjoy a cup of tea and a chat.

JUNE 30: Medstock School Music Festival themed on a beach party at Medstead Primary School, 2pm-8pm. Fun and games with live music and stalls, barbecue, pizza, ice cream, beer, cocktail bar.

JULY 1: Alton Ramblers meet 8.40am at Alton Health Centre car park for 10-mile walk led by Bob, starting 11.20am from Shanklin Station car park (SZ581819). Lift share from Alton to take the 9.28am train from Petersfield Station - buy return to Shanklin (bring bus passes). Walk from the old railway track, up onto the Downs, then descend to the coastal path, with good views along the way. Bring lunch. Option of a meal after walk. JULY 1: Silver Service for older people at Alton Methodist Church, 3pm. Organised by Anna Chaplains Debbie Thompson (Thrower) and Reverend Rachel Sturt on the theme of ’The Quiet Mind’. Followed by tea and cake. Minibus transport available. Call Jill on 01420 82695.

JULY 1: Alton Natural History Society field meeting at Greywell and North Warnborough, mainly for plants. Meet 10.30am at Greywell Waterworks, Deptford Lane (SU724513). Bring lunch or pub lunch. Call Raynor on 01256 862541.

JULY 3: Alton Ramblers meet 9.30am at Alton Sports Centre car park for five-mile walk led by Sarah & Patric, starting 10am from car park adjacent to Basingstoke Canal at Odiham (SU747516). JULY 5: Alton Ramblers meet 9.20am at Alton Sports Centre car park for 10-mile walk led by Penny, starting 9.45am from unnamed lane west of A32 at Angel Hotel (signed West Tisted). Park on verge away from field gates (SU672287). Walk field paths, tracks and lanes in rolling countryside. Bring lunch, no facilities en route. Call 01420 23323 or visit altonramblers.org.uk.

JULY 6: Treloar’s summer fete at the Holybourne campus, noon-3pm. More than 30 stalls, including 10 run by students, selling everything from potted plants and jewellery to books and doggy treats. Games, including human fruit machines and teachers in the stocks. Run by the Treloar’s Parents Association, aims to raise £2,000 for the students’ house Christmas parties.

JULY 7: Medstead Gardeners’ Club summer show at Medstead village hall, 2.15pm. Award ceremony 3.30pm. Refreshments, raffle, free entry. Schedule from the Handy Store, Medstead. Visit medsteadgardenersclub.xyz.

JULY 7: Charity fun day in aid of Pancreatic Cancer Research: 10am to 4pm at 1 Mitford Road, Alresford, 10am-4pm.

JULY 7: Summer fete in St Lawrence churchyard, 10.30am-2pm. Sideshows, plants, tombola, vintage cars, games, cakes, refreshments, barbecue.

JULY 7: Wootey infant and junior schools’ PTA summer fayre, 11am-2pm. Barbeuce, bouncy castles, reptile encounters, glitter tattoos, face painting, raffle, refreshments.

JULY 7: Alresford Community Choir performs ’Spirit of Summer’ at St John’s Church, Alresford, 7.30pm. An evocative programme of songs from the old and new worlds. Tickets £15 (£12 concessions) from Oakleaf Stationery, Alresford, or online at alresfordchoir.com.

JULY 14: Community fun rock painting at Alton Community Centre, 2pm-4.30pm. For those who want to get started or to paint, chat and share ideas with fellow rock painters. Suit all ages. £1 per person to include small bag of rocks, use of permanent pens and free tea, coffee, squash and biscuits.

JULY 14: Hampshire farmers’ market on Alton High Street, 9.30am-2pm. Locally grown and reared produce.

JULY 14: Alton Lions craft market on Cross & Pillory Lane and Alton Market Square, 10am-3pm. A wide range of locally crafted ware ranging from patchwork quilts to hand-crafted cards and from jewellery to chocolate, cards, paintings and wood turning items.

JULY 14: Froyle fete and flower show at the recreation ground at Lower Froyle, 2pm.

JULY 17: Third death cafe at St Lawrence Church Hall, Alton, 7pm-9pm. Diana and Wendelien facilitate the conversation around death and dying with tea and homemade cakes. Entry free.

JULY 19: Beatrix Potter: The Tale of the Tales at Alton library, 7.30pm. Talk focusing on the creation of Beatrix’s ‘Little Books’ offering a fascinating insight into the life, art and writing of this talented Victorian writer. Tickets £5 - advanced booking essential - from Alton library or by calling 01420 85734.

JULY 21: Alton Community Association playgroup 40th anniversary open day at Alton Community Centre, 10.30am-2pm. Opportunity for parents with children aged two to five to have a look around and meet the staff. Call 01420 85057.

JULY 21: Music in the Allen Gallery garden, Church Street, Alton, 11am-3.30pm. Music courtesy of talented local musicians. Bring a picnic or enjoy refreshments from the cafe. Indoors if wet. Free entry.

JULY 21: 123rd Bentley fete and flower show, 2pm.
